Publishing

Q magazine was created in the UK with its first issue sold in October 1986, produced by Bauer media.  Bauer Media Group is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg and is in charge of producing other magazines such as FHM, Heat and Grazia, with also many other media brands like 4music, Magic and Kiss fm. Bauer media is built on personal relationships with readers and listeners. Q magazine brings in around 80,000 readers per month while the magazine bases itself around devoted interviews with popular music artists.
NME (new music express) magazine has been published weekly since 1952. It is owned by IPC Media, a publishing company which owns many magazines. IPC Media focuses on three core audiences: mass market women, upmarket women and men. The men’s division includes Nuts, Country Life and Rugby World while the mass market women’s division covers many weeklies such as Now, Look and Woman. The upmarket women’s division comprises of luxury brands such as InStyle, Marie Claire and Woman and Home.
NME reaches over 1 million people per week with different media aspects such as NME magazine, NMETV, NME Radio, NME.com and through the many live events hosted and award ceremonies. The website NME.com has almost 5 million visitors per month, launched in 1996. It is the longest running music weekly in the world, featuring coverage of the latest releases, reviews, guide to new music and the best in current music.
This information provides insight to how the magazines are sold and readers buying wants. I will base my magazine around NME and Q Magazine when it comes to my flat plans. This will also help guide me through the progress of my magazine.
